Fish oil…. What is it? And why?
Fish oil is an essential fatty acid or an omega 3. What I love about fish oil is; it has a number of benefits for our skin and bodies particularly the fact that it aids in restoring the lost lipids in our skin and contributes to a healthy barrier function. Whether our skin is suffering from acne, rosacea, wrinkles, dryness, sensitivity, reactivity, dermatitis or any type of ageing, these skin conditions are all inflammatory.
It’s important to not think about fish oil as an ‘oil’. It is not an oil, although the name makes us think so. Remember it is an essential fatty acid and this supplement is fantastic to fight inflammatory skin conditions. Essential fatty acids must be obtained by food or supplements (fish oil) as the body cannot synthesise them… Including 3000mg fish oil daily will be adequate to aid in the fight against inflammation in our skin. It is always recommended to consult with your doctor prior to taking this dosage. For vegetarians try flax seed oil as an alternative….
